All the Animals, They Like the Coconut

“All the animals, they like the coconut.”

My friend Andy says this to me as I recline on a wooden bench at his café on Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast. I am waiting for my coconut curry rice and lobster. Andy caught the succulent shellfish earlier in the day using coconut for bait.

Coconut grows everywhere here. An important food source, easily accessible and highly valued, it is used in just about everything. Local guys use long poles to break the huge nuts free from the trees. The outer shells are hacked open with machetes and the sweet milk inside is either downed on the spot or poured into two liter bottles for later use. The meat inside is scooped out and grated. This grated coconut is then squeezed into warm water, turning it milky white. Next, rice is tossed in and cooked in coconut luxury until it’s simmered to perfection.

My food arrives. Fresh veggies, quickly sautéed in coconut oil, are piled high on a bed of sweet coconut rice and my lobster (also slathered in coconut oil) is well…heavenly.

We cook with coconut oil at home every day here in the tropics. We use it as a base in many of our organic body lotions, and we add it to bamboo and lemongrass infused vinegar to make an amazing, skin loving, healing body wash. We use it in our sunscreen, condition our hair with it, and even bathe our two little adopted street dogs with it.

Oh…and Charlie, our adopted pup, he loves it!
There are so many ways to use coconut oil at home. It’s a perfect ingredient for homemade toothpaste, homemade soap, or homemade deodorant. We carry a generous variety of coconut oils here at Wild Rainforest Organics. It comes in 12 different single plant infusions including noni leaf, guanabana leaf, banana blossom, ginger lily, and bamboo to name a few. You can also buy our completely natural, wild organic coconut oil infused with several combinations of wild rainforest plants--each one designed to give you something special--like our cell rejuvenating Fountain of Youth combo or our tranquility promoting Relaxing Remedy.

The Secret of the BriBri: Cacao

The Secret of the BriBri

Costa Rica’s Indians are some of the longest lived people on earth.  We spent time visiting with the BriBri in the Talamanca Mountains. They, like many modern indigenous people, live between two worlds. They wear modern clothes, live in modern houses, and carry cell phones. But they still adhere to the old ways when it comes to taking care of themselves. And one of the traditions they hold dear is the drinking of chocolate. YES! Chocolate is GOOD FOR YOU! In fact, the BriBri drink 5-6 cups of this unsweetened, rich beverage every day and they say its powerful anti-oxidants are the secret to their longevity.

Now, don’t think of the cocoa your mother made for you. This drink is made from the raw cacao beans, smashed into a paste, dried, and then shaved into a powder. The BriBri boil it with water instead of milk and they don’t add any sugar (I admit, I like a little honey in mine).  The resulting drink has tiny circles of cacao butter floating on top because it is so pure.
So here’s what I propose. Try replacing your morning coffee with a cup of this ultra-pure raw cacao. It will give you a caffeine boost similar to coffee without the jittery feeling. It will also keep you from being hungry and, because cacao is full of feel good chemicals, it will promote a general feeling of “Don’t worry, be happy”.

Here’s my favorite Raw Cacao Hot Beverage Recipe

Morning Raw Cacao Recipe

10 oz water
2 Tablespoons raw cacao
Pinch of sea salt
A few drops of vanilla
Pinch of cinnamon
1 Tablespoon honey
Boil the water with the cacao and salt. Whisk with fork or whisk. Allow it to boil for 2 minute or so (this will make sure the cacao is melted)
Shut it off and add the vanilla and cinnamon
Pour into your favorite mug, add honey and stir well
ENJOY!

Bamboo Beauty: How Bamboo Can Keep You Young

Bamboo is packed with silica. Think of the tall, slender stalks that bend in the wind, but don’t break. Bamboo is one of the strongest plants on earth. That same silica that allows bamboo such suppleness and flexibility is what keeps your skin firm. The problem is, you start to lose the silica in your body in your 40’s. That’s when the wrinkles set in. Unfortunately, you can’t digest silica in a solid form. However, you can drink tea. And you can absorb it through your skin.

Bamboo tea is sweet and light. We harvest it here in Panama from the green bamboo that grows wild in the islands. I like it better than green tea, as it doesn’t have that bitter after taste. Drinking bamboo tea is a great way to add silica to your diet and keep your skin, bones, hair, muscles…pretty much everything that needs to be strong and elastic…in great shape! Check out our WILD SHOP where you can order a tin of our Wild Bamboo Tea.

Another great way to get more skin rejuvenating silica is through your skin. I swear by our bamboo enriched daily face cream. We soak the bamboo in coconut oil for weeks to extract the precious silica from the leaves. Then we make a rich face cream that includes organic aloe sourced from a farm in the northern part of Costa Rica. Add extracts from other wild botanicals like banana blossom, hibiscus flower, lemongrass, papaya leaf and cacao leaf and a touch organic rainforest honey and voila! …the perfect Fountain of Youth daily facial cream!

You can find Fountain of Youth Face Cream in our WILD SHOP at www.wildrainforestorganics.com. When you are there, pick up an extra jar and we will donate food to help feed a hungry family with our CHANGE the WOLRD program.
Remember, we are all in this crazy world together!

FACT #1   In a study that linked parabens to breast cancer tumors, 100% of the tumors tested contained parabens. Parabens are found in MOST of our health and beauty products.

FACT # 2   In a study done on absorption rates of toxins found in tap water, 91% of the toxins were found to enter the bloodstream through the skin in the warm water of a shower. This percentage HIGHER than the percent of toxins found in the bloodstream after drinking the water!

The point here is that what we put on our skin is absorbed INTO our bodies, in some instances more efficiently than if we ingested it!

Soursop--also known as graviola and guanabana--is a PROVEN cancer fighter. The fruit is sweet and is wonderful in shakes and ice creams. I have guanabana trees in my yard and I can almost never get to the heavy, ripe fruits before the birds (very BIG birds) steal them. However, I do regularly harvest the bright green leaves from the tree.

Actually, the leaves are HIGHER in cancer fighting compounds than the fruit. And a cup of soursop tea tastes better than green tea. The effects are amazing, including a little known benefit we came across quite accidentally. It does wonders for your LOVE LIFE!

But we were talking about absorption rates, right?

Well, just imagine soaking those powerful soursop leaves in coconut oil for weeks, and then using it to make body lotion, toothpaste, deodorant, hair conditioner, you name it...

The result?

Cancer fighting body lotion

Cancer fighting toothpaste

Cancer fighting deodorant

Think about it. What would YOU rather put on your body?

infused with SOURSOP

The Plight of a People Caught Between Worlds

Caught between two worlds, these Panamanian men set off to work in a cayuko rigged with a sail. Their boat is carved from a single tree. Tree branches hold out the sail. Hiding in their pockets are cell phones. But there is no electricity in their homes, so they will charge their phones any place they can. (I know, they've stopped by my house just to borrow a little electricity)

Work today might be hauling dirt or hand mixing cement and the few dollars they will earn will buy big bag of rice, and maybe a little chicken.

These men understand the way of the rain forest. They know how to harvest wild mangos, bananas, icecream beans and jack fruit and they know how to fish. They also know how to build a house from hand felled logs. But times are changing. The old ways are being lost. The younger generation is going off to work and not practicing the skills of how to live "off the grid"

The funny thing is, there are gringos moving to these parts because they want to learn to live "off the grid." Of course, the homes they are setting up use solar panels and rainwater catchers. Still, a simpler way of life is very appealing. I hope we can learn from these simple people. And I understand that they will continue to learn from us. Time must go forward and development has its ups and downs. But in the meantime, these two men need to feed their families....and I want to help them.

How Fluoride Makes us Spiritually Blind

Dangers of Flouride

I am having trouble staying focused this morning. My thoughts seem to have a life of their own, I feel a little scattered and unable to concentrate, and it may be due to years of fluoride exposure. Even if this day’s scatteredness is just due to the rain, I have most certainly been impacted by the fluoride that has been in my drinking water and in my toothpaste since I was a little girl.

Did you know that fluoride was originally labeled by the EPA as a toxic waste that was part of the uranium enrichment process? And yet, we are being forced to endure its effects with the promise that it is good for us, even necessary.

Well here is a short list of some of the things that fluoride produces in our bodies.
  • Cancer
  • Genetic DNA Damage
  • Thyroid Disruption – affecting the complete endocrine system and leading to obesity
  • Neurological Damage – diminished IQ and inability to focus, lethargy and weariness.
  • Alzheimer’s Disease
  • Melatonin Disruption -- lowers immunity to cancer, accelerates aging, sleep disorders.
  • Pineal Gland Calcification -- clogs this gland located in the middle of the brain

Pineal Gland Calcification

Your pineal gland absorbs more fluoride than any other part of your body. It’s like a fluoride sponge. Pineal gland calcification is devastating to us as a race. This little pine cone shaped gland is also known as our third eye. Just like we use our eyes to see, to connect with our physical world through our sense of sight, we use our pineal glad to see spiritually. It is the glad that facilitates our sixth sense, our connection with the dimensions that are all around us every day, but we, especially in the West (fluoride pushing countries) have lost this ability to such a degree that many of us have become completely spiritually blind, not even believing that a spiritual world exists.

Fluoride has blinded us to God and to the many faceted planes of existence we don’t see with our physical eyes, but we all intuitively feel at some level. This blinding leaves us seriously handicapped, just as if we were physically blind.

Who would want to do such a thing? What agenda would be promoted by blinding us like this?

Thank abut it...

Now think for a minute about those little vitamin B pills you can take that you stick under your tongue. They are quickly absorbed through the soft tissues in your mouth and directly into your bloodstream.

Now think for a minute about your toothpaste. And about fluoride. And about things absorbing directly into your bloodstream.

If you want to have a spiritual awakening,

one of the first things you might want to do is

throw out your toothpaste.

Homemade All Natural Toothpaste

  1. Plain baking soda works great
  2. Add a little coconut oil
  3. Add a little lime juice
  4. You can even add a little honey to sweeten it as it is a great all natural bacteria killer
  5. Add a few drops of mint essential oil if you have it laying around the house

Plain baking soda is all you really need, so don’t delay just because you don’t have coconut oil or mint oil  Remember, whatever you put into your mouth is going to be absorbed directly into your bloodstream, so choose things that are good for you.

How to De-Calcify your Pineal Gland

  • Get some sun. Take off your sunglasses.
  • Reduce your meat intake, especially beef and pork
  • Increase your fruit and veggie intake, especially dark green veggies
  • Stay away from preservatives in your food
  • Eat nuts, seeds, and beans
  • Add herbs to your diet like cilantro, oregano, and parsley
  • Cook with coconut oil
  • Indulge in raw cacao
  • Drink alkaline or distilled water
  • Swig a little apple cider vinegar every day

To a better, more spiritually awake, and healthier you!

Wild Flower Tea

White Ginger Lily flowers line the path to the house. The scent is like a perfume shop. All heady and sweet and a little intoxicating.

But the blossoms only last a day.

Once I saw a photo of an enormous, beautiful design drawn in the dew on a monastery lawn. By the time to monk creating it was finishing the elaborate pattern, the morning sun was drying up the dew.

Beauty is fleeting. Notice it. Treasure it. Be present. Put away your thoughts and connect with what is right in front of you. Life is an endless parade of moments. We don't live in the past, nor in the future, but always in the present. So today, focus on getting out of your head and into your world. It is a beautiful gift. Let it fill you. Breath deeply. After all, the fragrance of the flowers grounds us, settles us, and reminds us of why we are here.

GINGER LILY TEA
  1. Collect the flowers while they are open or even before they open.
  2. Eat a least one fresh bud while you are on the path.
  3. Put them in a cup and pour boiling water over them.
  4. Allow to steep for 5-10 minutes
  5. Remove blossoms and add a little honey
  6. The tea has a mild ginger snap and is really yummy!

HEALTH BENEFITS of WHITE GINGER LILY
  • Similar to ginger, the ginger lily is good for stomach complaints
  • Because its a natural anti-inflammatory, ginger lily helps relieve minor aches and pains
  • It also increases circulation, warms you up, and puts a little kick in your day!
